This is the first book in Lynette Eason's new series Extreme Measures. 

This book is set in the mountains of North Carolina and centers around Penny Carlton and FBI Special Agent Holton Satterfield.  Penny is a paramedic and rescue pilot for Lifeflight.  Penny is also the daughter of movie star Geneva Queen.  Penny's character is quiet interesting.  As a young girl she experience a trauma that has shaped the young woman she has become.  First she's very smart, caring, compassionate, well respected, speaks her mind, but also keeps her personal life very private.  She doesn't try to hide it, but she also doesn't advertise it.  In the last 5 years Holt has went from one crisis to another it seems. First his partener was murdered during an attempted rescue attempt during a kidnapping, his sister was arrested and confessed to killing her husband, then while trying to bring in a serial killer was critically injured.  Holt is a great guy, but also a well respected agent.  Everyone likes him, including Penny. 

One stormy afternoon Penny gets a call out for a young injured girl who needed immediate transfer.  Weighing her options and looking at the storm she agreed to take off, hoping if all went well she would  just beat the storm.  Of course nothing goes as planned and suddenly Penny finds herself flying in the worse storm she ever flown in. Holt finds out his serial killer on death row has escaped and thinks he has headed for Mount Mitchell where he could hideout.  

This book is full blown edge of your seat suspense from the first page.    The plot is both intriguing and realistic.  The characters are fully developed showing both their strengths and flaws.  The author has a talent for pulling the reader into the story and holding them until the last page is turned.  This book was no different.  I couldn't put it down until I finished it. This is definitely a book I would recommend to anyone who loves a great suspense.

When I picked this book up I literally couldn't put it down.  I read through the entire book in one day and planned the next day to get my review posted, but unfortunately that didn't happen.  I ended up sick, thanks to my children, and in bed for a few days.  Yes, I know everyone has been there.  When I started feeling better I started to write my review, but didn't feel I could give it a proper review so I picked my book back up and read it again.  

My Thoughts:

This is suspense at it's best!!

I have been reading Elizabeth Goddard's books from LIS for years so I was excited to see she was writing a series for Revell.  Her books are best known for the edge of your seat suspense, complex characters, engaging plots, faith, and a touch of romance and that's what I like most.  Honestly, this book meets all that criteria and more.  

This story starts in Washington state where we meet Willow Anderson.  She is a Forensic Geneaologist who was raised by her grandfather after her parents was killed.  Willow followed in her grandfather's footsteps in her career and was also his business partner.  After his death she wants to honor his memory and begans to look at the last case he was working and hopes to close the case for him.  Unfortunately this one is a little different because it involves an abduction in Texas of a baby from years ago and this one involves living people which is something that very seldom happens.  Another thing that is of concern to her is the fact that her grandfather had contacted Austin McKade, who is someone from her past, but with his FBI contacts maybe he could offer clues of where to start with the case.  

Austin McKade has been out of the area for a while working on a case, but not for the FBI.   He's currently working with ex-agents called independent special agents.  He could investigate and provide protection, but he no longer arrest anyone.  He had received a message from J.T. Anderson about needing some assistance, but it would have to wait until he returned to Washington.  Unfortunately, before his return he received word of J.T.'s death and the explosion/fire at his home.  His thoughts immediately went to Willow and knew he wouldn't rest until he could talk to her.  

The house explosion/fire was suspicous and under investigation.  Austin knows there's more to this and plans to find answers while keeping Willow safe, whether she wants his help or not.  

This wonderful book has so many elements of mystery, suspense, and emotions that I was totally captivated by it.  Once I started it I couldn't put it down.  The author gives a rich backstory, an incredible setting, complex characters with real issues, romantic tension, twists and turns, faith, and a delicious tale where characters find things more complicated than they ever imagined.  This is a book I would recommend to anyone who love suspense.

Loved it!!!
I always know when I get a book written by Margaret Daley that I'm in for a treat.  I'll tell you a secret, when my husband spots one of her books he will laugh and say I guess you'll be up late tonight.  It's true because when I open one of her books I'm immediately drawn into the story and don't stop reading until the last page is turned.  For this reason I use the term one setting read for a lot of books.  
This book is the 3rd installment in the Everyday Heroes series, but it's definitely a stand alone story.  This book brings elements of edge of your seat suspense, plot twists and turns, complex characters, romantic tension, turmoil, crisis of faith, and love.  
This story centers around Sadie Williams.  She grew up Butte City, Colorado with her twin sister, Katie.  Of course life doesn't always turn out the way you plan, especially for Sadie. 4 years ago she was engaged to literally the boy, Brock Carrington, next door and was planning their future.  Then came the dread news that Brock was injured in battle and flown to Germany.  Sadie immediately flew out to be with him, but Brock ended their relationship and broke her heart all at the same time.  When she hears Brock is returning home Sadie knows she must leave and learn to live without him. 
Sadie has been busy in the past 4 years.  She has written a cookbook and her cooking shows are very popular.  She has decided to moved back to Butte City to be closer to  her sister who still resides in the family cabin in the mountains.  With Brock living next door to Katie, Sadie dreads accidentally running into him, but with Katie's cryptic call and the "twin spidey sense" Sadie knows something is very wrong.  
Brock has not spoken with Sadie in years.  He knew his harsh words were cruel to her, but he didn't want her pity not then or now.  Learning to live without his leg was one thing, but dealing with PTSD was always with him and not something that was easy.  His support group had helped a lot and so had his support dog, Bella.  In fact he has just started to train Bella in search and rescue which gave him great satisfaction in being able to help people. 
This is a fantastic book.  It is a mystery laced with spine tingling suspense.  The characters are complex, but endearing as they endure with the turmoil of dealing with romantic tension during life and death situations.  This is a book I would recommend to anyone who love suspense.

My Thoughts:

Elizabeth Goddard is one of my favorite authors.  She writes my favorite genres and I know the way she weaves words together always brings both the characters and setting to life for me.  Her plots are edge of your seat suspense, but she also brings a faith element to the story.   
This is the third installment in the Coldwater Bay Intrigue series, but it's easily a stand alone book in my opinion.  
For me, this was a spectacular read!
From the first page I was drawn in and captivated until the last page was turned.Once I got started, I didn't want to put it down.  So for that to me, I classified it as a one sitting read. 
  Cora Strand is a young woman who accepted a job 2 months ago as a shipwreck archaeologist on board the research vessel Sea Dragon. Being a member of the science team is her dream job.  She has a passion for the sea and what she can find and learn from ships that have gone down.  Some do this for treasure hunting, but for her the treasure is in finding and researching history. 
Kirk Higgins was hired on the Sea Dragon as part of the dive team.  With his impressive archaeological credentials, diving skills, and having served in the Navy getting the job was not the problem, but keeping his real purpose for being there a secret might be.  He's looking for answers to the disappearance of his childhood friend, Drake Jackson.  
Both are strong characters that will pull on your heart strings.  I liked that Cora has a strong faith and isn't afraid to lean on God for guidance for strength and guidance.  Kirk has to face the fact that he has always had feelings for Cora and that he had literally pushed her away years ago.  He has a tough exterior, but also a softer side.  
This book has elements of faith, trust issues, crisis of faith, romantic tension, spine tingling suspense, unexpected twists, turmoil, and love.  It's a book I would recommend to anyone who loves suspense.

My Thoughts:

I loved it!!!!

This is the third installment in the Blue Justice series, but it's definitely a stand alone story.  This book is action packed, fast paced and pulled me in from the first page and kept me turning the pages until I finished it at 3 am.  I considered this a one sitting read, because I just couldn't put it down.  This story contains elements of mystery, edge of your seat suspense, romantic tension, faith and love. 

I believe this is my favorite of the series.  

I immediately fell in love with Brady St. John.  After a bad break up he threw himself into his work to try to forget some bad decisions and a broken heart. I think he was more embarrassed about the bad decisions than the broken heart though.  He doesn't question his ability to do his job, but does question himself when it comes to women.  His sister convinces him to take a much needed vacation to get his straight and his heart right with God.  Very good advice which  he takes and lands him in a rental on Lake Henley with his dive suit, fishing poles and his bible.  

Emily Chastain finds herself in a strange predicament, tied to a boat with a gun pointed at her head.  For the life of her she can't figure out who this man is or what she's done to make him so mad as to want to kill her. With the sudden intervention of a stranger Emily finds herself free from one stranger, but suddenly unsure of who she can or should trust.  Emily works at a bank as a financial crimes investigator and to look at her you would think she has a life of ease.  Well, it's anything but that.  She grew up in an abusive household, ended up homeless and living on the streets.  I love that her strength of character comes from her faith in God.  

Emily and Brady suddenly find themselves in a run for their lives while trying to figure out exactly who wants Emily dead and why. Brady has help from members of his family, but he takes a personal interest in not only keeping Emily safe, but also bringing those to justice who have hurt her.  

This is a book I would recommend to anyone who likes suspense or mystery.

My Thoughts:

This is the second book in the Code of Honor series from Irene Hannon, but I felt this was a book that is easily without reading the first one.  I would like to note that I advise anyone to read the first book to get the full impact of the series.  

I really enjoyed this book and read it in one setting.  The plot quickly pulled me in and held me until the last page.  I felt this was a fast paced suspense laced with a mystery and romance.  The characters are both strong and well developed.   For me the author brought the characters to life and made me feel like I could be friends with them.  I like how neither were afraid to show their faith.  Kristin was a person who wanted to help others have a better life.  She was always reaching out a hand to help anyone.  I like how the author conveyed genuine friendship between the two characters. 

For me this was a wonderful story and contained all the things I love in a story (suspense, mystery, faith, romance and love).  This is a book I would recommend to anyone who wants loves a good book.

My Thoughts:

This is the fifth installment in Susan May Warren's Montana Rescue series. I feel this is a stand alone book, meaning that the author gives enough background that it's unnecessary to read the other books in the series.  I do however recommend reading the other books in the series to get the full impact of the series.  

I loved this book!!

This book centers around PEAK Rescue located in Mercy Falls, Montana and it's team members.  This is Ty's story.  

Ty Remington works as an EMT at PEAK Rescue and has for the past two years since the helicopter crash that injured him and his close friend/mentor, Chet King.  Ty, in recent weeks has been considering a change.  He just doesn't feel needed or a valuable member of the team.  18 months ago a chance meeting with Brette Arnold had a huge impact on Ty and forgetting this woman was proving hard to do. 

Brette Arnold has been riding out the storms of life both up close and at a distance.  She is a blogger/photographer with Vortex Storm Chasers.  Storms are unpredictable and chaotic, but for Brette, they captivated and enthralled her.  She has experienced a storm of her own.  18 months ago after and emergency appendectomy a suspicious lump was found in her breast and her storm started.  During the past year chemo had ravaged her body and along the way she lost herself.  Now she is looking for something bigger that will help her forget this past year and maybe along the way find hope for the future. 

Wow, what incredible characters, right? Now here comes a F-4 tornado barreling through Minnesota and hits the towns of Duck Lake and Nixon.  A call comes from Ben King that his father Chet King, a valuable member of PEAK, was missing after a tornado had hit the area he was vacationing.  All PEAK members load up and head to Minnesota to start what they do best, search and rescue.  The founders of Vortex are from the small towns just hit by the tornado so they head for home.  Brette goes to lend a helping hand to her friends.  

This story brings forth so many emotions.  Brette's story is enough to bring tears to your eyes, but one that is more common that we realize.  Cancer of any kind strikes fear in your heart and mind.  I think when someone is in the battle it's all about the fight and when you're finished with treatment that no one wants to hope for more, just take it one day at a time.  On the other hand when a natural disaster strikes one of the first things you do is hope.  One minute I was on the edge of my seat and the next I wanted to give Brette and Ty a hug. 

As I stated I loved this story and the series.  The engaging characters quickly pulled me into the story.  Both Ty and Brette are both strong and deep characters.  For me, the plot was fast paced and filled with twits and turns.  This was a one setting read for me.  Once I picked it up I couldn't up it down until I turned the last page and even then I still found myself thinking about the characters.

This story has elements of suspense, romantic tension, raw/real emotions, hope, trust, faith, fear, and love.  I would recommend this book to anyone who love a great book or loves supsense.

My Thoughts:

I loved this book!!

I think debut author Sharee Stover has written a hit. I was immediately drawn into the story and held until the last page was turned.  This story is full of edge of your seat suspense, romantic tension, engaging characters, raw/real emotions and faith.  For me this is the combination of a great story. 

I immediately was drawn to Katie.  She appears to be the girl next door living in a small community in Nebraska.  Suddenly secrets are revealed and she is literally running for her life.  Some may think she's an innocent victim and I guess to some extent she is, but as the story progresses her strength of character proves she's a survivor.  

This is a fast paced plot full of twists and turns that kept me not only reading, but engaged in the outcome of the story.  The author's use of imagery brought the setting to life for me.  The characters are both strong and realistic.  Katie is someone I can imagine having as a friend.  Daniel is a character with a tough exterior and a softer side.  

This of course is the first book for the author so she is a new author for me. I loved her writing style from the  first page, so I will anxiously await her next book.

My Opinion:

I loved this book and definitely look forward to reading more books in the series.  The author introduces us to our first hero, Luke Michaels, who in taking some down time from his job with search and rescue when he witnesses a woman struggling with two men who then throw her off a bridge into the frigid Kentucky River.  I was immediately drawn to this character who jumps into action and dives in to save her.  

"He dove down. The murky river limited his vision.  He searched, sweeping his arms in front of him.  He didn't want to add her death to the others he hadn't been able to save.  He surfaced, drew in a deep breath, then went back down.  His lungs hurt. Would she even still be alive if he found her?"

This passage told me so much about this man and cemented his hero status in my mind.  He didn't think twice about what he was doing, just sprung into action and drags Megan Witherspoon from the depths of the cold river.  

Megan is a teacher at the local elementary school and her last thought is waking up in the trunk of a car.  She remembers being at school trying to prepare her room for the upcoming school year and hearing a noise in the hall, after that nothing.  She lost her mother recently, lives alone and can't think of anyone who would want to harm her.  She assumes is must be a case of mistaken identity, but when she and Luke find her house in ashes they know something is amiss.  Luke promises to help keep Megan safe until they can figure out who wants her dead. 

I really enjoyed this book.  I was pulled into the story from the very first page.  The plot is full of twists and turns which leads to a wonderful suspense.  This is a fast paced story that is full of mystery, suspense, trust, faith, and a romance. The characters are facing circumstances that are far more complicated than they ever imagined.  This is a book I would recommend to anyone who enjoys suspense of mystery.

My Thoughts:

If you like suspense then this is definitely a book for you.  

This is the second installment in the Defenders of Justice series, but could easily be read as a stand alone.  This a fast-paced story that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat.  This story is set in the back woods of Arkansas in the small town of Shelter Cove where Kate O'Brien has been living for the past 4 years in witness protection.  4 years ago she and her twin sister were brutally attacked and left for dead in their apartment.  Katie survived the attack and testified against her attacker then went into witness protection.  Tony DeLuca works for the US Marshals and heads to Shelter Cove to transport Katie back to St. Louis. Tony has a history with Katie since he protected her during the trial.  He doesn't want to see her relive the attack again, but knows that it's a necessity if they want to put Alan Gerard back in prison.Both character are strong and complex.  I immediately liked both.  Katie is dealing with a crisis of faith and has not dealt with her attack or her sister's death. I love how the author takes an approach on the subject of faith. She makes the entire topic more understandable.  She makes the character feel so real through their raw emotions.  I don't want to give anything away but with Tony's arrival in Shelter Cove the plot takes unexpected twists and turns that has both characters literally running for their lives.  This is definitely a book I would recommend to anyone who loves suspense.
