My Review:

This is the 9th installment in the Amish Country Justice Series from Dana Lynn.  

Once I started reading this captivating story I couldn't put it down.  The author brings strong characters and a spine tingling suspense. 

The story centers around Jennie Beiler. A single mom who's preparing for holidays with her 4 year old son.  A news broadcast captures her attention and sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change her life.  She grew up in foster care after reporting and testifying against her stepfather for abuse and her mother relinquishing her parental rights.  Jeanie has learned to keep her emotions close and has only shared them with one other person, Luke.  His loss devastated her, but knew she had to be strong because she had a child to raise.  This was not the life she had envisioned, but it was what she had. Suddenly finding out her step father had escaped prison and Luke showing up on her doorstep was much more than she was ready to deal with.  I loved how even though Luke had amnesia he still felt a strong need/desire to protect Jennie. Could Luke regain what he had lost? Luke is a strong Amish man who wants to do right not only God, but also Jennie and his son. He never once thinks of himself first. 

As the story opens I am quickly pulled me in and held me until the end (until 2:20 in the morning I might add). This story has elements of  mystery, suspense, complex characters, turmoil, faith, and love.  The plot flows effortlessly. The engaging characters are raw and real.  This book is part of a series, but is written as a stand alone read.  

I would recommend this book to anyone who love a clean story, Amish, or a good suspense.

My thoughts:

I love books written about Kentucky and this historical immediately swept me back to the fall of 1849 in Harmony Hill.  This story centers around Darcie Goodwin who is a young woman that is on a journey of survival.  She married her husband Walter 4 years ago, but with the growing threat of cholera in the area they made the decision to live with the Shakers until the threat was over.  Their arrival was met with changes they didn't know or hadn't expected.  For one the women and men were kept completely separate, so she and Walter were unable to live as husband and wife.  She was raised in a christian home, but some of the Shaker beliefs were hard for her to accept.  After 3 months of living with the Shakers Walter left one day never to return leaving Darcie a young widow and a baby on the way.  

I really enjoyed this book!! The plot immediately pulled me in.  I enjoyed reading about the Shakers and must admit I was shocked at some of their beliefs. I could tell the author had researched this topic well.  The engaging,secondary characters are well integrated into the story.  Darcie is both kind and sweet, but she shows a survivor instinct throughout the story.  Flynn Keller is a widow and the father of an inquisitive, young daughter.  He's not ready to move on with his life in  a romantic sense, but he knows he needs to put his daughters needs first.  The author adds an artful touch to the story by adding a small mystery into the plot.  It was not something I expected, but enjoyed because it enriched the story.  

This captivating story has elements of faith, second chances, quirky characters, romantic tension, and love.  

This is a book I would recommend to anyone.

My Thoughts:

This is a wonderful story that will immediately swept me to London in the late 1800's.  This is the first book I've read by this author, but not the last.  She brought the characters to life for me with her vivid descriptions and by conveying their raw emotions realistically.  Her characters are strong, complex and well developed.  The plot is a mix of faith, mystery, romance, and forgiveness, but it's also so much more. 

Cara Bernay has a heart of gold.  She has good intentions, but one misstep has her plagued with guilt and shame.  As the story opens she is the nanny of a very active toddler, but when the child is put in danger by her actions her position is terminated.  She has no place to turn except to her older sisters, which is not something she's excited about.  Her father's disappearance and loss of her mother at a young age plus her time spent in an orphanage has shaped her into a woman of great compassion. Cara's arrival in London is met with many challenges, but she puts her best foot forward towards a future that opens up to her. I truly liked and admired this character.  

This is a book I would recommend to anyone who loves history, romance, or just a good clean read.

My Thoughts:

This is the second book in the Code of Honor series from Irene Hannon, but I felt this was a book that is easily without reading the first one.  I would like to note that I advise anyone to read the first book to get the full impact of the series.  

I really enjoyed this book and read it in one setting.  The plot quickly pulled me in and held me until the last page.  I felt this was a fast paced suspense laced with a mystery and romance.  The characters are both strong and well developed.   For me the author brought the characters to life and made me feel like I could be friends with them.  I like how neither were afraid to show their faith.  Kristin was a person who wanted to help others have a better life.  She was always reaching out a hand to help anyone.  I like how the author conveyed genuine friendship between the two characters. 

For me this was a wonderful story and contained all the things I love in a story (suspense, mystery, faith, romance and love).  This is a book I would recommend to anyone who wants loves a good book.

My Thoughts:

This is the first book in a new series, The Daughtry House, from Beth White.  This historical sweeps the reader back to Mississippi approximately 5 years after the civil war where people were dealing with the aftermath of the war and the rebuilding of their lives.  The story details shows how much research the author put into the writing of the life and times of the era.  

As the story opens Ithaca Plantation is being raided by rebel Confederate soldiers as the daughters, as instructed, hid under the porch.  This is where we are introduced to Selah Daughtry, who by the way is my favorite character.  Being the oldest of three she is instructed by her mother to keep her sisters safe and out of harms way.  She takes this charge not only seriously, but to heart.  As the story progresses we see how she is always putting her sisters first and making decisions based on what's best for everyone.  One example is when she makes the decision to leave Ithaca after the death of her beloved mother to keep her sisters safe, then when she returns after the war to take charge of what was left of their plantation until her father returns from the war.  She is not domineering towards her sisters, but rather seeks their counsel when necessary in making decisions.  What I liked best about Selah was that instead of letting her past define her as a person, she used it to shape her instead by not only learning from mistakes, but also listening to her heart. She takes in young man and tries to help him even though she can barely feed herself.  She listens to Levi and places trust in him even though she has learned to trust no one but her family since the war started. She shows her strength of character from the first page. She goes from being a belle of the plantation to being the one who is in charge of making decisions she feels ill equipped to make, but learning to trust and depend on others for help.   

This historical romance also includes elements of mystery, faith, forgiveness, grief, trust and love.  The plot quickly pulled me in from page one and held me with each page turned.  This is a book I would recommend to anyone who loves a good, clean book.  I am really looking forward to the next installment in this series.

My Thoughts:

As the New Year approached I made plans for things I would like to do, projects I wanted to accomplish, and goals I wanted to reach.  As the clock turns everything feels fresh and new, but as the day brightens my routine is the same.  I often wonder why I never get anything accomplished or so it seems.  I do think I'm alone in my thoughts and feelings, but unfortunately I'm not.  

When I saw the cover for this book my first thought was the flowers reminded me of spring and the beautiful colors coming.  When I read the excerpt I thought this is a book I would enjoy reading and I did.  It was sort of like opening a window into my heart.  It reminded me from the first page that wherever you are in your life, you can begin again, whether it's a new day, month, season, year or even hour.  The author opens her heart and shares her story of the valleys she's fought and the mountains she has climbed during her life.  She's very open about her struggles.  

This is a well written book that is easy to navigate through and understand.  Leeana Tankersley reminds us that no matter what struggles you are facing today there is another chapter in you story.   The pages are full of both inspiration and faith.  

This is a book that would be great for anyone.

Why I Hate Green Beans

When Revell offered this book for review I immediately felt that it was one I would like so I applied.  It arrived with several other fiction books I had been looking forward to reading, so needless to say it was placed on my TBR stack by my bed.  Had I of known then what I know now I would have opened it immediately.  Let me introduce to you debut author Lincee Ray's book:

I began blogging accidentally when I wrote a recap for the beloved show everyone loves to hate — The Bachelor. What began as a place for closeted fans to commune and discuss the wonder that is Our Host Chris Harrison slowly morphed into a place where I share stories about everyday life.

One day, my Bachelor recap landed on the desk of an editor at Entertainment Weekly. That sweet woman quickly deduced that I am a pop culture weirdo who probably watches all of the teenybopper shows on The CW. She was right. When I’m not watching TV for a living, you can probably find me speaking to various groups of women, including business and church groups. If all else fails, look for me in a darkened movie theater or at a live music venue.

I taught myself to say the ABCs backwards as a child. It kills at parties. I really do hate green beans and am a little too enthusiastic about Netflix, mix tapes and holiday-themed Oreos. I also believe that it’s important to tell your story—even the ones that make you seem a little crazy.

My Thoughts:

I loved this book.  The author opens up and tells her story.  This story will bring both a smile to your face and you might shed a tear while reading it.  It brought forth so many emotions for me.  Lincee is much younger than me, but when she opened up about her memories from school I was right there going through my own memories, insecurities, mistakes and successes.  I was hooked right then and there.   As she opens up about her life up until this point I read both raw and real emotions.  She encourages other women by saying none of us are perfect, far from it, but when we depend on God all things are possible.  While reading this book I kept thinking I wish I would tell Lincee that I understood what she was going through and that I would love to be her friend.  Yes, this is a book that you can relate to.

My Thoughts:

I absolutely loved this book.  

Dani Pettrey introduced us to some incredible men in the first book of this series, Cold Shot, who grew up together and formed a bond that would last a lifetime. Declan is a FBI agent, Griffin is a detective, Parker is a CSI and Luke, well he took off in college and no one has heard from him in years. 

Two months ago Declan stumbled upon some incredible evidence, a dying man's declaration, that leads him to believe there's an imminent threat against the country.  Tanner Shaw has recently been hired as a crisis counselor with the bureau and with Declan's partner being on leave of absence his boss assigns them to work together.  Declan and Tanner have not always seen eye to eye on things so he's somewhat reluctant to bring her in on this case, plus his attraction for her could be distracting to say the least.  Tanner knows Declan is not fond of her so she feels working with him is going to add a lot of tension and stress to her life that she really doesn't want or need.  
I think this is my favorite book in this series, of course I say that about every book the author writes.  I have to admit with the rich backstory this series is very addicting. Even though this book is part of a series, it's an easy stand alone story.   This book is full of twists and turns that leads to spine tingling suspense.  The characters are engaging and quickly pulled me in to the story with the first page and held me until the last page was turned.  Yes, this was a one setting read for me.  This book has elements of suspense, romantic tension, turmoil, and faith.  I liked that the characters were not ashamed of their beliefs and values.  
This is a book I would recommend to anyone who loves a good suspense.

My Thoughts:

This is a heartbreaking story that quickly weaved it's way into my heart.  

I was quickly swept away to the Oregon frontier during the 1870's.  This book is based on the true story of Jennie Pickett.  Jennie quickly weaves her way into my heart. She was a young woman who has faced personal challenges all her life, but she has dreams and aspirations.  After the loss of her infant daughter she has a desire to help women and children with what we now know as essential oils.  She is a complex character that her turmoil is shown through raw and real emotions. Coming to the realization that her husband was drinking heavily, at times putting her son in harms way, and that her husband didn't support her dreams I think was a turning point in her life. She is a woman to be admired for her determination and inspiration.  This story takes on some tough issues that in the 1870's were not discussed and very little if anything was truly known about.  

This story has so many elements......personal and family challenges, grief, turmoil, dreams, and lots of faith.  After closing the last page I find myself still thinking about the characters.  This is a book that I would recommend to anyone who loves history, an inspirational story, or who loves hearing about strong women.

My Thoughts:

This is a sweet romance filled with lots of real life questions/worries/stress. This is the first book in her new Wyoming Cowboys series.  I am officially hooked and looking forward to the next book.  I must admit when I picked this book up I couldn't put it down until the last page was turned so for me it was a one sitting read.  

This story is set in Sweet Dreams, Wyoming, but most of the story takes place on Rock Step Ranch.  As the story opens we meet Clint Romine heading to Rock Step Ranch for a job interview with the new ranch owner, Alexandra (Lexi) Harrington, who he attended high school with.  Lexi and Clint are both complicated characters, but they felt so real to me.  Lexi has recently and suddenly lost her father.  She is not only dealing with her grief, but she also has to figure out how to keep the ranch running, because she has her own thriving business in Denver that she needs to get back to.  Clint has had set backs in his life that has shaped him into the man he is.  5 years ago he lost his own ranch and the loss of his dream has changed him. 

I was drawn into this sweet plot immediately.  For me it was a spectacular real! The author does a great job weaving words together to bring the plot and characters to life with her imagery.  The friendship between Clint and Lexi is conveyed in a very genuine way. The characters are complex and have real issues, but they are resolved realistically.  This story has elements of grief, trust, romantic tension, second chances, crisis of faith and love. This is a book I would recommend to anyone who loves a clean, feel good romance.
