This is the first book in Lynette Eason's new series Extreme Measures. 

This book is set in the mountains of North Carolina and centers around Penny Carlton and FBI Special Agent Holton Satterfield.  Penny is a paramedic and rescue pilot for Lifeflight.  Penny is also the daughter of movie star Geneva Queen.  Penny's character is quiet interesting.  As a young girl she experience a trauma that has shaped the young woman she has become.  First she's very smart, caring, compassionate, well respected, speaks her mind, but also keeps her personal life very private.  She doesn't try to hide it, but she also doesn't advertise it.  In the last 5 years Holt has went from one crisis to another it seems. First his partener was murdered during an attempted rescue attempt during a kidnapping, his sister was arrested and confessed to killing her husband, then while trying to bring in a serial killer was critically injured.  Holt is a great guy, but also a well respected agent.  Everyone likes him, including Penny. 

One stormy afternoon Penny gets a call out for a young injured girl who needed immediate transfer.  Weighing her options and looking at the storm she agreed to take off, hoping if all went well she would  just beat the storm.  Of course nothing goes as planned and suddenly Penny finds herself flying in the worse storm she ever flown in. Holt finds out his serial killer on death row has escaped and thinks he has headed for Mount Mitchell where he could hideout.  

This book is full blown edge of your seat suspense from the first page.    The plot is both intriguing and realistic.  The characters are fully developed showing both their strengths and flaws.  The author has a talent for pulling the reader into the story and holding them until the last page is turned.  This book was no different.  I couldn't put it down until I finished it. This is definitely a book I would recommend to anyone who loves a great suspense.

Wow!!!

What an amazing book from Elizabeth Goddard in her Uncommon Justice series!

Goddard is a favorite author of mine, in fact I reread a lot of her books because I have enjoyed them so much.  She has a talent for weaving words together that bring the plot, setting, and characters to life for me. 

This is the second book in this series, but for me it's an easy stand alone story.  Yes, there is a common thread, but it's not necessary to read the first book.  I do encourage everyone to read the first book to get a full impact of the series, but it's not necessary to have read the first one to enjoy this one.  

In this book we meet Harper Reynolds and Heath McKade.  

Harper has had a troubled life and has taken a leave from her job as a crime scene photographer to deal with all the trauma she has seen. She and her sister have been traveling and visiting national parks. She has witnessed the after effects of crime, but the one the has hung on for years was the murder of her father when she was a child. 

Heath owns and runs Emerald M Guest Ranch in Grayback, Wyoming.  He has his own ghosts.  He's a former Green Beret with his own troubled childhood.  He has returned to own childhood home to make it into something more than what he remembered. 

 Memories linger. 

Both characters are strong and complex. Harper once described herself as a survivor.  She shows her strength of character as she seeks justice for a woman who no longer has a voice.  Unfortunately that puts her in the crosshairs of a murderer and danger is all around her.  

Heath is a protector, but lately he feels anything but.  It seems like every time he tries to help something goes wrong, but this time there's more on the line. He sees a woman in distress, but this isn't just any woman. She's a woman from his past. 

I loved this book, in fact it may be my favorite from this author.  It is a fast paced story packed with explosive suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat and turning the pages.  The setting comes to life through the vivid descriptions and obvious research of the area.  This books has elements of suspense, mystery, a touch of romance, and faith. 

 I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves suspense.  For me this was a one setting read, meaning when I started reading I just couldn't put it down.

My Thoughts:

This is the first book in a new series, The Daughtry House, from Beth White.  This historical sweeps the reader back to Mississippi approximately 5 years after the civil war where people were dealing with the aftermath of the war and the rebuilding of their lives.  The story details shows how much research the author put into the writing of the life and times of the era.  

As the story opens Ithaca Plantation is being raided by rebel Confederate soldiers as the daughters, as instructed, hid under the porch.  This is where we are introduced to Selah Daughtry, who by the way is my favorite character.  Being the oldest of three she is instructed by her mother to keep her sisters safe and out of harms way.  She takes this charge not only seriously, but to heart.  As the story progresses we see how she is always putting her sisters first and making decisions based on what's best for everyone.  One example is when she makes the decision to leave Ithaca after the death of her beloved mother to keep her sisters safe, then when she returns after the war to take charge of what was left of their plantation until her father returns from the war.  She is not domineering towards her sisters, but rather seeks their counsel when necessary in making decisions.  What I liked best about Selah was that instead of letting her past define her as a person, she used it to shape her instead by not only learning from mistakes, but also listening to her heart. She takes in young man and tries to help him even though she can barely feed herself.  She listens to Levi and places trust in him even though she has learned to trust no one but her family since the war started. She shows her strength of character from the first page. She goes from being a belle of the plantation to being the one who is in charge of making decisions she feels ill equipped to make, but learning to trust and depend on others for help.   

This historical romance also includes elements of mystery, faith, forgiveness, grief, trust and love.  The plot quickly pulled me in from page one and held me with each page turned.  This is a book I would recommend to anyone who loves a good, clean book.  I am really looking forward to the next installment in this series.

My Thoughts:

This is the fifth installment in Susan May Warren's Montana Rescue series. I feel this is a stand alone book, meaning that the author gives enough background that it's unnecessary to read the other books in the series.  I do however recommend reading the other books in the series to get the full impact of the series.  

I loved this book!!

This book centers around PEAK Rescue located in Mercy Falls, Montana and it's team members.  This is Ty's story.  

Ty Remington works as an EMT at PEAK Rescue and has for the past two years since the helicopter crash that injured him and his close friend/mentor, Chet King.  Ty, in recent weeks has been considering a change.  He just doesn't feel needed or a valuable member of the team.  18 months ago a chance meeting with Brette Arnold had a huge impact on Ty and forgetting this woman was proving hard to do. 

Brette Arnold has been riding out the storms of life both up close and at a distance.  She is a blogger/photographer with Vortex Storm Chasers.  Storms are unpredictable and chaotic, but for Brette, they captivated and enthralled her.  She has experienced a storm of her own.  18 months ago after and emergency appendectomy a suspicious lump was found in her breast and her storm started.  During the past year chemo had ravaged her body and along the way she lost herself.  Now she is looking for something bigger that will help her forget this past year and maybe along the way find hope for the future. 

Wow, what incredible characters, right? Now here comes a F-4 tornado barreling through Minnesota and hits the towns of Duck Lake and Nixon.  A call comes from Ben King that his father Chet King, a valuable member of PEAK, was missing after a tornado had hit the area he was vacationing.  All PEAK members load up and head to Minnesota to start what they do best, search and rescue.  The founders of Vortex are from the small towns just hit by the tornado so they head for home.  Brette goes to lend a helping hand to her friends.  

This story brings forth so many emotions.  Brette's story is enough to bring tears to your eyes, but one that is more common that we realize.  Cancer of any kind strikes fear in your heart and mind.  I think when someone is in the battle it's all about the fight and when you're finished with treatment that no one wants to hope for more, just take it one day at a time.  On the other hand when a natural disaster strikes one of the first things you do is hope.  One minute I was on the edge of my seat and the next I wanted to give Brette and Ty a hug. 

As I stated I loved this story and the series.  The engaging characters quickly pulled me into the story.  Both Ty and Brette are both strong and deep characters.  For me, the plot was fast paced and filled with twits and turns.  This was a one setting read for me.  Once I picked it up I couldn't up it down until I turned the last page and even then I still found myself thinking about the characters.

This story has elements of suspense, romantic tension, raw/real emotions, hope, trust, faith, fear, and love.  I would recommend this book to anyone who love a great book or loves supsense.

Why I Hate Green Beans

When Revell offered this book for review I immediately felt that it was one I would like so I applied.  It arrived with several other fiction books I had been looking forward to reading, so needless to say it was placed on my TBR stack by my bed.  Had I of known then what I know now I would have opened it immediately.  Let me introduce to you debut author Lincee Ray's book:

I began blogging accidentally when I wrote a recap for the beloved show everyone loves to hate — The Bachelor. What began as a place for closeted fans to commune and discuss the wonder that is Our Host Chris Harrison slowly morphed into a place where I share stories about everyday life.

One day, my Bachelor recap landed on the desk of an editor at Entertainment Weekly. That sweet woman quickly deduced that I am a pop culture weirdo who probably watches all of the teenybopper shows on The CW. She was right. When I’m not watching TV for a living, you can probably find me speaking to various groups of women, including business and church groups. If all else fails, look for me in a darkened movie theater or at a live music venue.

I taught myself to say the ABCs backwards as a child. It kills at parties. I really do hate green beans and am a little too enthusiastic about Netflix, mix tapes and holiday-themed Oreos. I also believe that it’s important to tell your story—even the ones that make you seem a little crazy.

My Thoughts:

I loved this book.  The author opens up and tells her story.  This story will bring both a smile to your face and you might shed a tear while reading it.  It brought forth so many emotions for me.  Lincee is much younger than me, but when she opened up about her memories from school I was right there going through my own memories, insecurities, mistakes and successes.  I was hooked right then and there.   As she opens up about her life up until this point I read both raw and real emotions.  She encourages other women by saying none of us are perfect, far from it, but when we depend on God all things are possible.  While reading this book I kept thinking I wish I would tell Lincee that I understood what she was going through and that I would love to be her friend.  Yes, this is a book that you can relate to.

My Thoughts:

I was very excited to see Sarah Sundin was writing a new series, Sunrise at Normandy.  The release of the first book,  The Sea Before Us, she introduces us to the Paxton family from Texas where there are three boys of whom have reunited in celebration of Wyatt's graduation and return to Kerrville to take over as his father's manager of Paxton Trucking.  Wyatt is the oldest and this book follows his tour of duty with the Navy which takes him to Kensington, London, England.  

As Wyatt steps on foreign shores he's determined to put his troubled past behind him and put his training into action as plans are made for the naval bombardment of Normandy.  Wyatt is confronted with learning cultural differences between his upbringing and the English way of life.  Wyatt has a strong faith in God. 

Dorothy Fairfax is another key character in this story.  She and her father live in Kinsington where he runs a small railway shipping company.  Dorothy at present works for the Women's Royal Naval Service, WREN, for short where she pieces together photos from France that people have supplied them with.  It's a job she enjoys and is good at.  With the donation of photos they are looking for areas of weakness to this campaign, both where they could attack or be attacked during the bombardment.   She has known much sorrow in her short life.  She had lost both brothers to the war and her mother during the Blitz, when German bombers had blasted Britain almost every night for a year. With so much sorrow and the emotional distance from her father Dorothy finds herself in a crisis of faith.  

Wyatt and Dorothy work closely together in the maps area of the British Naval Building and a friendship quickly develops.  Dorothy gives him an insight into the life as it's been in London and the culture.  Wyatt truly enjoyed meeting her father and all the sights and knowledge she is giving him.  

This is a spectacular read!  

I was easily draw in from the first page. This is delicious story where characters find things more complicated than they ever imagined.  The wonderful imagery immediately brought the story to life for me.  The characters are complex and engaging.  Their turmoil was raw and real as shown by their emotions.  The secondary characters are well integrated into the story which brings a richness to the story.  There are twists and turns that bring a certain amount of suspense and unexpected mystery. This book brings elements of mystery, suspense, family values, faith, love, and lots of history.  This is a book I would recommend to anyone who loves history and romance.

My Review:

I loved this book!!

The beautiful cover gives a glimpse at the magnificent story enclosed.  As I opened the first page I was immediately drawn into the story.  Elisabeth Lawson is a lady of position and all that entails in society by being the daughter of the British Lieutenant Governor for the Virginia Colony.  Her mother, who has been very vocal about her political thoughts, is currently in London, but due home at any time.  Elisabeth seems like a young woman who has never been given the opportunity to think for herself, but has always followed orders as expected.  This character tugged on my heart and reminded me of how far women have come and what those before us had to endure.  

The author weaves words together that bring the characters and setting to life for me.  The characters are engaging, endearing and complex.  When Elisabeth finds herself abandoned by her father, penniless and suddenly alone she must reach inside herself and find out if she has the strength to take care of herself.  I loved the journey that Elisabeth took to find her true self and love.  
This is a book I would highly recommend to anyone who loves a good clean story or a story centered around historical events.

I can't help be amazed at the gifts God has delighted me with - a wonderful husband, four amazing children, and the opportunity to write for Him.

I've been writing as long as I can remember - I won my first book writing contest in first grade! Over the years, writing has become, for me, a way to praise God and see Him at work in my life.

Although I have a degree in Mass Communications from the University of MN, my real writing experience started when I penned the The Warren Report - a bi-monthly newsletter that detailed our ministry highlights.

Living in Russia meant I never lacked for great material - and those experiences naturally spilled out first into devotionals and magazine articles and finally into my first published story, "Measure of a Man," in the Tyndale/HeartQuest, Chance Encounters of the Heart anthology.

Susan and husband grew up in Wayzata, a suburb of Minneapolis, and became an avid camper from an early age. My favorite fir-lined spot is the north shore of Minnesota - it's where I met my husband, honeymooned and dreamed of living. The north woods easily became the foundation for my first series, The Deep Haven series.based on a little tourist town along the shores of Lake Superior. I have to admit - I'm terribly jealous of Mona, the heroine of my first full-length book, Happily Ever After, a Christy Award Finalist published in 2004 with Tyndale/Heartquest.

Our family moved home from the mission field in June 2004 -- and now we live in the beautiful town I'd always dreamed of! God has amazed me anew with His provision, and blessings -- and allowed me a season when I can write full time for Him.

What an amazing adventure that takes the reader deep into Glacier Mountain Park in Montana!! 

I loved this book.  It has elements of edge of your seat suspense, romantic tension, turmoil, imagery, and the thrill of adventure.   The cover is very inviting.  Of course the plot is a fast paced adventure that immediately pulled me in from page one.  For me this was a one setting read.  The author weaves words together that bring both characters and setting to life.   I loved Gage. He captured my heart from the beginning.  His character showed emotions that were both raw and real.  He has tried to put his past behind him and not repeat it.  Ella's character was endearing and I loved how she was trying to protect her brother from making a bad decision.  When she enlists Gage to help her with her brother I have to say Gage shows his true strength of character.  I felt the characters fear and joy.  I also must say even though this is part of a series this book is definitely a stand alone story.   I would recommend this book to anyone who loved a good suspenseful adventure.

I loved this story!!

Melody Carlson has released the 3 installment, Under a Summer Sky, in the Follow Your Heart series.  This story sweeps the reader from Washington state to Savannah, Georgia. We are introduced to the enchanting Nicole Anderson who is a high school art teacher preparing for summer break when an opportunity to spend the summer in the historical town of Savannah.  As a child growing up Nicole spent summer vacations with her mother's childhood friend, Vivian Graham, and her family.  Parts of it she remember fondly, but other parts were almost unbearable.  This opportunity involves house sitting for Vivian and helping out at her art gallery while she is on a world cruise.  

Her arrival is met with the first surprise, Vivian's oldest son was in the middle of a divorce and now lived on the estate.  What she remembers of Alex is not really pleasant.  He was a good looking boy, but his personality showed him to be a bully and guess what? He hasn't changed much.  One big difference is that he is now the father of a teen aged daughter.  Surprise number two is that Vivian doesn't just want her to help out in the gallery, but to actually manage it with the help of her assistant, Amyra.  Of course no one told Amyra of the Nicole's arrival or what her role at the gallery would be.  Another surprise would be Vivian's son Ryan that she remembered had a crush on her when they were younger.  All Nicole can think is what a summer this has turned out to be, nothing as she had anticipated.  

This is a sweet story.  I found the characters captivating.  Nicole was so sweet and tried to do what was expected of her as a friend and employee.  With each challenge thrown her way she shows her strength of character.  She is intrigued with the history and architecture of the city.  She tries to acclimate to southern living.  I just loved her.  Alex was appealing until his true character became obvious with how he dealt with Ryan and his daughter.  

I would recommend anyone who loves a good, clean romance with a few twists.
