My Thoughts:

Elizabeth Goddard has released the fourth installment in her Wilderness, Inc. series.  This book is probably my favorite in the series, but then again I have loved them all.  This series is set in southwest Oregon surrounding the Rogue River.  Ms. Goddard weaves her words to together that bring the story to life for me.  The setting explodes to life with her vivid use of imagery.  This story centers around Alice Wilde who works at Wilderness, Inc. as a guide.  Until an unfortunate accident on the Rogue River she mostly guided white water rafters, but she hadn't been back on the river since.  When a client enlisted her services for a off-trail adventure they had spent 3 days in the Oregon mountains doing their best to avoid poison oak.  Suddenly Alice stumbles upon suspicious activity which leads her to an illegal growing operation and when she is spotted by the growers finds herself dodging bullets and literally on the run for her life.

Griffin Slater is a civilian photojournalist since a traumatic brain injury ended his military career.  3 years ago  he arrived in Wild Rogue Wilderness region to rest after his injury, but has returned  on a journalistic project regarding illegal marijuana grown on public land.  When receiving a call from Sheriff Kruse about a possible lead.  The problem with this lead is it came from a trained wilderness guide and that put her life endanger.

The plot is fast paced and flows effortlessly.  This story deals with the issue of the illegal use of our public lands to grow marijuana.  Millions of acres of public lands are being overrun with illegal marijuana growing operation, resulting in degraded habitat and toxic trash that leads directly to wildlife deaths and serious threats to local water supplies.  These people make millions of dollars with these operations and they will take whatever necessary precautions to prevent their growing sites from being shut down.
This book is a edge of your seat suspense that kept me turning the pages.  I would describe it as a one sitting read, which means when I picked it up I was captivated until the last page was turned.  I was drawn into the story and could feel the fear, joy, and turmoil of the characters.  The plot has unexpected twists and turns.  The characters strong and well developed.  Alice was hurt in the past and has a difficult time trusting.  Griffin feels he's damaged and not good at relationships.  They are both easy to love.  This story has elements of mystery, suspense, romantic tension and faith. This is a book I would recommend to anyone who loves suspense.
**I received this book from the author.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.
