Thatcher Sisters

Published May 8th 2018
 by Tyndale House Publishers

It’s been ten years since Payton Thatcher’s twin sister died in an accident, leaving the entire family to cope in whatever ways they could. No longer half of a pair, Payton reinvents herself as a partner in a successful party-planning business and is doing just fine—as long as she manages to hold her memories and her family at arm’s length.
But with her middle sister Jillian’s engagement, Payton’s party-planning skills are called into action. Which means working alongside her opinionated oldest sister, Johanna, who always seems ready for a fight. They can only hope that a wedding might be just the occasion to heal the resentment and jealousy that divides them . . . until a frightening diagnosis threatens Jillian’s plans and her future. As old wounds are reopened and the family faces the possibility of another tragedy, the Thatchers must decide if they will pull together or be driven further apart.

My Thoughts:

I loved this book!!
I love reading a good story, but this story swallowed me heart and soul.
(Warning, this book should come with a box of tissues.)
Beth Vogt weaved words together that evoked so many emotions for me.  In fact, after reading the last page I found myself thinking of these characters.
I knew when I received this book I would need to set aside time to immerse myself in the story, but I had no idea how deeply it would touch me.
This is the first book about the Thatcher sisters/family.  Ten years ago the unthinkable happened, Pepper Thatcher was killed in an accident.  As you can imagine this was very difficult for the Thatcher family, but no one more than Payton who was Pepper's twin.  Every time Payton looks in the mirror she sees Pepper or what at least what she would have looked like.  Payton is coping with her loss the best that she can, but she is suddenly free falling without a safety net.  Normally your family would be there to catch you, but Payton has held her family at arm's length since Pepper's death. She's afraid if she loves too hard or gets too close and loses someone that the hurt will be more than she can endure, plus she's hiding a secret that she's afraid to reveal to anyone.
Payton owns and operates a successful party planning business, so when her sister Jillian becomes engaged it's natural she would ask Payton for help.  Unfortunately Payton knows this means working with her older sister, Johanna, who is not only bossy, but also wants to organized everything.  She puts aside her anxiety and agrees for Jillian's sake, but with being around her family more than usual has brought her nightmares on with a vengeance.  Plus the resurface of Zachary Gaines  could also have an influence on her nightmares returning.  Zachary Gaines was the boy involved in Pepper's accident and knows the secret she's held close all this time.
This captivating story immediately pulled me in immediately and held me, until I fell asleep at 3 am, until the last page was turned.  It captures emotions that are both real and raw.  Yes, I think this is a story everyone will love and I recommend it.
**I received this book from the publisher.  I was not required to write a review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

My Thoughts:

Beth Vogt has written another wonderful book.  She brings a storyline that will tug on your heart and characters that are easy to relate to.  The first two lines hooked me and I knew I would love the story.

"A new day- another opportunity to prove herself to her boss.  Of course, Caron had complicated the whole "prove herself" challenge by working for her father."

Caron Hollister is a character that appears to have it all.  She come from an affluent family who owns a successful real estate firm where she works as an agent.  She is informally engaged to Alex Madison, someone she has known since elementary school and considers her best friend.  From an early age Caron had made a goal and that was to make her father proud of her.  She broke this down into a plan and took necessary steps to obtain her goal.  She put her plan into action by graduating from college, obtaining her real estate license and going to work for her father.  For years Caron has put her life literally on hold and focused on her job in hopes of proving to her father that she was worthy of inheriting the family business.
Caron was a character that I could easily relate to and I think most other readers will feel the same way.  I always wanted to make my parents proud while I was growing up.  I was the youngest of three so I'm sure that played a part of my looking for praise and acceptance.  Caron knew that she may never measure up to her father's expectations, but she still tried.  I think a lot of us take the wrong path at times trying to please others when the only person we should be trying to please is God.
When Caron is faced with the truth, that she hasn't measured up to her father's expectations she comes to a crossroads in her life and a decision to make.  She decides to take time to think all her options through and heads to Colorado to assist her best friend/college roommate with preparations for her wedding.  The only problem is her trip only complicates her decision more.
This book grabbed me from page one.
I loved it!
This story has elements of humor, acceptance, love, forgiveness, choices and faith.  I loved the characters and cheered for Caron to get her happily ever after.  This is a book I would recommend to anyone who loves a good story.

Crazy Little Thing Called Love (Destination Wedding #1)
Published by Howard Books
Released June 30, 2015
5 Stars

The hardest decision you will ever face in life is choosing whether to walk away or try harder.

Brief Description:
Wedding bells and storm clouds collide in the first engaging novel in a brand-new series about destination weddings, the power of love, and the possible mishaps and missteps that happen on a couple’s journey down the aisle to “I do.”
Paramedic Vanessa Hollister has put her adolescence behind her, including the unwanted label of being the new kid in town over and over again, thanks to her father’s military career. She’s overcome what her mother called “the biggest mistake of her life” and is planning an elegant destination wedding in Destin, Florida with her new fiancĂ©. But will the reappearance of her first husband from her what-were-you-thinking teenage elopement disrupt her dream of an idyllic beach wedding?
As a professional storm chaser, Logan Hollister is used to taking risks. However, a reckless decision during the last tornado season has him questioning the future of his team, the Stormmeisters. Coming face to face with his ex-wife eight years after their divorce compels him to confront his greatest regret: losing Vanessa. Does their past give him the right to interfere with her future?

A fast-moving, powerful hurricane throws Vanessa and Logan together as they evacuate to a storm shelter along with other residents of the Florida Gulf Coast. Forced to spend time together, the pair battles unexpected renewed feelings for each other.

I loved this book!!!
This is a story about choices and trust, but it's also about so much more. It's a romance interwoven with a little suspense that is truly hard to put down until the last page is turned.
Vanessa Hollister grew up as a military child moving from post to post and never putting down roots which is something she longs for.  She hated being the new kid at school and her senior year of high school was not different, but yet turned  out to be the year that changed her life.
Vanessa met and married Logan Hollister her senior year of high school and truly thought their futures were set.  Unfortunately love does not conquer all.  A marriage takes communication and work by both people if it is to succeed. Was it youth, miscommunication, selfishness, or distance the downfall of their marriage?  I suspect a combination of all that and then some.  Regardless a mere two years after the "I dos" are spoken their marriage ends in divorce.
Vanessa learns a valuable lesson, or so she thinks, and tries to put Logan and his betrayal in the past where it belongs.  After college she move to Colorado and begins a new life.  Fast forward 8 years and she finds herself engaged to Ted Topliff and planning her wedding.
Ted is an ER physician and she is a paramedic so they have a lot in common.  One of the the things she loves about Ted is that he is practical, but sometimes maybe a little too practical, especially when he suggested a destination wedding. Ted wants to combine their wedding with a medical conference so he can obtain some educational credits.  The best conference was located in Destin, Florida and that's the one he wants to attend.  Even though Vanessa doesn't want to be married in Destin, Ted convinces her and encourages her to take a trip down to plan the wedding of her dreams.
Vanessa decides going to Destin early to plan the wedding will be perfect after all.  She would be able to plan her dream wedding and at the same time she would finally face her past with Logan and put it to rest once and for all.  What she doesn't expect is to run into Logan after all these years or the Cat 2 hurricane to hit the area.  Needless to say both wrecked havoc on her plans.
This is a sweet romance that will tug on the heart of any reader. I was immediately drawn to the characters, but the engaging storyline kept me turning the pages until the end.  The bible tells us to pray about everything and to follow where God leads us.  The spiritual journey of the two main characters take is as important to this story as the romance. I would recommend this book to anyone.
I received this book as a gift from the publisher and author for a honest opinion  without bias or outside influence as stated above.  I would like to thank them for this opportunity.

Somebody Like You

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
(Psalm 31:18 NIV)

Book Description

Can a young widow find love again with her husband’s reflection?Haley’s three-year marriage to Sam, an army medic, ends tragically when he’s killed in Afghanistan. Her attempts to create a new life for herself are ambushed when she arrives home one evening—and finds her husband waiting for her. Did the military make an unimaginable mistake when they told her Sam was killed?

Too late to make things right with his estranged twin brother, Stephen discovers Sam never told Haley about him. As Haley and Stephen navigate their fragile relationship, they are inexorably drawn to each other. How can they honor the memory of a man whose death brought them together—and whose ghost could drive them apart?

Somebody Like You is a beautifully rendered, affecting novel, reminding us that while we can’t change the past, we have the choice to change the future and start anew.

My Review

5 Stars
When I first looked at this book the first thing I noticed is the beautiful cover.  The cover is very inviting and made me want to see exactly what this story was all about.  When I read the back it gave me a brief synopsis of the story, but when I opened the pages I found that it was much more than I expected.  I gave this book 5 stars because it met all my expectations and I loved it.
When I first met Haley I felt so sorry for her and I wanted to just tell her she really needed to seek professional help.  She is in a deep state of grief for the loss of her husband, but is also pregnant.  She tries to keep everything together and not ask for help, because she feels this would be a sign of weakness.  The author amazingly conveys Haley and the trials she is enduring.  I like how the author opens up about how Haley feels guilty for not telling her husband about her pregnancy.
Stephen is a complex character, but easy to fall in love with.  I like how Stephen is introduced into the story.  He is not ashamed of his faith or does he pretend to be perfect.  He readily admits to past mistakes he's made and explains that all is he wants to do is help.  Haley resists his help as much as she can, but there comes a time when there's no one else but Stephen.  The author does an excellent job of weaving words together to express the emotions the characters are experiencing.  These two characters give you a glimpse into their heart and soul.
I love this book, but it needs to come with a huge box of tissues.  I would recommend it to anyone.  It is a well developed story with strong characters.  The story will take the reader on an emotional journey, but it is also a true to life journey for some.
