Alsaskan Search and Rescure #4

Anchorage K-9 officer Jake Nichols returns home for Christmas to recover from the accident that almost killed him—and find a little peace and quiet. But those plans are shattered when his childhood friend Rachel Hart gets caught up in a drug-smuggling ring after her aunt's best friend is brutally murdered. Jake quickly discovers that Port Aurora is no longer the tranquil little fishing town he left behind. He promises Rachel that he'll stick around until he tracks down the killer—and vows to protect her at all costs. Both of their lives are in peril as he battles against the Alaskan winter, a ruthless criminal…and his developing feelings for Rachel.

Margaret Daley and Love Inspired have release the fourth installment in the Alaskan Search and Rescue series, Standoff At Christmas. Even though this book is part of a series it is still a stand alone story.  This is a wonderful suspense interlaced with a romance, which is my favorite type of stories to read.  The setting is a small fishing town, Port Aurora, in Alaska.
We are introduced to the captivating Jake Nichols, an Anchorage K-9 officer, who has returned to Port Aurora to finish his recovery from an accident that almost killed him and to spend Christmas with his grandfather.  Jake and his partner were trapped in an explosion that occurred a few months ago and his rehabilitation had not went as well as he had hoped, but hopefully it was turning around.  Rachel Hart was the girl who lived down the road and someone he considered his best friend.
After being gone for 8 years it was easy for him to see all the changes around Port Aurora, but the one thing that hadn't really changed was his friendship with Rachel.  Rachel still works at the fishery and lives with her aunt Linda just down the road. Rachel and Jake's friendship is conveyed in a very genuine way and I was hoping it would turn into more.  When her aunt Betty is found murdered that puts a whole new spin on everything.  Rachel wants to find out what happened to Betty and starts to investigate which leads to her life being put in jeopardy.  Of course being a cop, Jake, quickly realizes there's more going on than anyone suspects.
Margaret Daley is one of my favorite authors.  She knows how to weave her words together to bring a wonderful suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat and guessing the ending until you turn the last pages.  Her characters and settings are always descriptive and literally come to life for the readerThis is a wonderful read that will keep you turning the pages until the end and the characters will stay with you even after you close the book. This is a good, clean read.
The message I received from this story is that you must trust and put all you faith in God to take care of you.  God may close one door, but will open another that leads to a place you were meant to be.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good suspense.

*I received this book from the author for a honest review without bias or outside influence.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.
