Montana Rescue #1

Wild Montana Skies (Montana Rescue, #1)
Search and rescue pilot Kacey Fairing is home on leave in Mercy Falls, Montana, twelve years after she joined the military to escape the mistakes of her past. With a job waiting for her as the new lead pilot of Peak Rescue in Glacier National Park, Kacey hopes to reconnect with the now-teenage daughter she sees only between deployments. What she doesn't realize is that someone else is also back in town.
Ben King has been building his country music career since the day Kacey shut him out of her life. Now all of that's on hold when his injured father calls him home to help run Peak Rescue until he's fully recovered. It doesn't take long, though, to discover his father's ulterior motives as Kacey Fairing walks into the house and back into his heart.
With Mercy Falls in a state of emergency due to flash floods, Kacey and Ben are forced to work together to save lives. But when floodwaters turn personal, can they put aside the past to save their future?

My Thoughts:

Wow!!
I loved both the story and the message this book contains.
I enjoyed not only the adventure of Kacey and Ben finding their way back to each other, but also the journey in their faith, learning forgiveness and how to pick up the pieces of shattered lives.
Kacey Fairing is a character who shows the strength a woman will find when needed.  She is a helicopter pilot who has suffered a devastating loss while serving a military tour in Afghanistan.  Kacey comes off as a character with a tough exterior, but has a softer side. She has accepted the position as lead pilot for PEAK Rescue in Glacier National Park for the summer while trying to come to terms with her last military tour.  She's faced with memories that have rocked her very core and the last thing she needs is more memories to from her teenage years to flood in or even to run face to face with the very person she made those memories with.

"And I know the military gave you glue for your life.  You're an amazing helicopter pilot.  But then that world blew apart. And now here you are, still holding the pieces, right back asking the question, who am I and where am I going?  And I have one answer for you, the one that's been there the entire time.  The only one who can give you the answer to all your questions is God.  He is the object your searching for.  We find ourselves and our happy ending by finding him and realizing the grace, the love he has for us."
~pg. 254

Ben King grew up in Mercy Falls but left 13 years ago in search of the lime lights in Nashville.  He has had success that many would envy, but when he left home he also left a part of his heart that he's never gotten back.  Ben has been summoned back to help PEAK Rescue and to also see to his father's recovery from surgery.  He arrives at an opportune moment because Mercy Falls is in a state of emergency due to flash floods from the rains and snow melt.  Ben is very frustrated with both his father's recovery and his own music career.

"Ben. That's exactly what God is going to do.  That's what he means when he calls himself the Good Shepherd.  He restores your soul, gives you new strength, and then he leads you in the right direction.  An it has nothing to do with whether you've made a mess out of your life.  He is the Good Shepherd for all the sheep who call his name-whether you're a white sheep or a black one."

Each character brings a separate look of young love at the heartbreak.
This story has elements of mystery, spine tingling adventure, forgiveness, faith and love.
It brings engaging characters, twists and turns, romantic tension, and the adventure of rediscovering love which led to the best night of insomnia ever.  The first few pages drew me into the story.  It broaches some tough issues that are resolved realistically.
I truly think anyone would love this story.
