Synopsis:

Just when she can't take it anymore, Leta finally catches a break. But when things seem too good to be true, they often are.
Finding her dream job went right out the window when Leta Breckenridge had to quit school to help care for her mother suffering from dementia. When a delinquent account may force her mother into a less desirable facility, Leta is thrilled to land a high-paying job at an Austin public relations firm. But her seemingly ideal job turns into a nightmare when she learns the firm is a front for a political opposition organization--and that the research she's been collecting will be used against Nathan Emerson, the handsome senator she's swiftly falling in love with.

Nathan is a rising political star being pressured to run a bid to unseat the current governor of Texas. He's already in a relationship with a woman much better suited to be a politician's wife, but he's never met anyone like Leta. Could this feisty woman hold the key to his heart--and his future?

Meet the Author:

I barely remember a time when I didn’t have a book in my hand. My tiny hometown of Carey, Idaho had no library, no bookstore. The bi-weekly bookmobile provided the only avenue to books . . . that, and my Gram, who spent a lot of her Social Security checks on books for her granddaughter with an insatiable appetite for stories.
I grew up on a sheep ranch in southern Idaho, a business my family had been in for generations, never dreaming I’d ever see my own name on a novel. I left home to attend Boise State University and spent most of my adult years pursuing a sensible legal career, raising two boys, and learning to be happily married.
But God heard the quiet prayers of a woman who dared to dream big and ask her Lord for the outrageous. In early 2011, I signed my first book contract. Today, I am living my fantasy. I live in Dallas with my husband. I work from home, writing novels. Often by the pool.
Can life get any better?

My Thoughts:

Kellie Coates Gilbert brings us the fourth installment in her Texas Gold series, What Matters Most.  This is an interesting, contemporary romance that I enjoyed reading.  This being a perfect book about political intrigue, especially since it seems like the only thing on television these days is about politics.  We are introduced to a strong, young woman who knows what hard work and sacrifice are like to provide for the one you love.  She dropped out of college to care for her mother who is suffering from dementia.  Ensuring that her mother is well taken care of is one of her greatest concerns.   In fact, she works three jobs just to keep her in one of the best facilities, Heritage House,  close to her and she doesn't complain about it either.
It seems like nothing is going right for her.  She works at Central Market designing flowers and they have recently hired a new person to help cover the hours and this is the last thing she needs with being behind on her bill at her mom's nursing facility.  She answers an advertisement for Wade Agency, a PR firm, and lands a high-paying position.  Finally a job where she can make enough money to pay for her mom's care plus catch up on the being behind.
Nathan Emerson is an up and coming candidate in the governor's race, but his job as a physician in research for neurological compromised patients is his first love and focus.  Meeting Leta was an eye opening experience.  There's an attraction that can't be denied, but he's blind sided by her new job at the Wade Agency.
I loved both complex characters.
This is a perfect book for anyone who loves intrigue, faith and love.
I received this book from the publisher as part of their book bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review.  All thoughts are my own.
