Synopsis:

The Fight for the Cimarron Ranch Has Just Begun!
When Cimarron Ranch patriarch Chance Boden is caught in an avalanche, only the quick actions of hired hand Heath Kincaid save him. Before leaving by train to receive treatment to save his leg--and possibly his life--Chance demands that Heath read the patriarch's will and see its conditions enforced immediately. If Chance's three bickering adult children, Justin, Sadie, and Cole, don't live and work at the ranch for an entire year, ownership of the ranch will pass to a despised distant relative.

Before long, however, Heath discovers that the avalanche may have been intentionally set--and that more danger lurks ominously. Finding his own future--and a desired future with Sadie--locked up in saving the Cimarron Ranch, Heath and the Boden siblings must work together against outside forces that threaten them all.

My Thoughts:

As an author Mary Connealy weaved her way into my heart years ago.  I love her writing style.  She has a way of weaving words together that literally bring the story to life for me.  I know I can pick up one of her books and get lost in the story.  This book is no different.
I always get excited when I hear that Mary is writing a new series and look forward to reading it.  Much to my surprise Mary released a novella, The Boden Birthright, which gives the background setting for this series.  After reading this novella, needless to say I was even more excited about the series.  No Way Up is the first book in the series.
This story takes place in Skull Gulch, New Mexico Territory in the fall of 1880.
On a blustery day we find Chance Boden, the owner of the Cimarron Ranch, along with foreman John Hightree  and Heath Kincaid riding in search of a cantankerous bull that had knocked down a gate blocking a mountain pass.  Unfortunately when an avalanche occurred raining down rocks and debris Chance finds himself trapped and injured. After Heath and John dig Chance out they immediately know he had an injury that would probably cost him his life.
Chance is a smart man and he has devised a plan through his will that will ensure that his children would learn to work together and fight to save the ranch.  Sadie has been living in town and working with the local orphanage, but with Heath's arrival and news of Chance's accident she immediately heads for homeAfter arriving at the ranch and much thinking Heath voices his opinion that the avalanche appears to have been intentionally caused.  Needless to say the siblings launch an investigation that proves Heath's theory to be correct and with it the knowledge that something more sinister is going on.  Danger is lurking everywhere and Heath plans to ensure that Sadie is protected.
I became invested in the story from the very beginning as the characters found things more complicated than they had ever imagined.  The romantic tension between Heath and Sadie add a measure of humor and intrigue.  Sadie shows her strength of character in many ways, but most importantly when she refuses to allow her brothers to push her to the side when investigating and solving this mystery.
This story has elements of mystery, suspense, romantic tension, turmoil and faith.  It is a book that I would recommend to anyone who loves mystery, suspense, and romance.
*I received this book from the publisher as part of their book bloggers program.  I was not required to write a positive review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The next book in the series is set to be release in March 2017.

Cover ArtThe Boden clan thought their problems had ended with the death of a dangerous enemy, but have they truly uncovered the real plot to take their New Mexico ranch? Rancher Justin Boden is now in charge. He is normally an unshakable and rugged man, but with his brother, Cole, shot and in mortal danger, even a tough man faces doubts. And it doesn't help that Angie DuPree, the assistant to the doctor trying to save Cole, is as distracting a woman as Justin ever laid eyes on.

With her and the doc's timely skills, Cole looks to be on the mend, and Justin and the rest of the Bodens can turn their attention back to the dangers facing them. It's clear now that everything that's occurred is part of a much bigger plot that could date back to a decades-old secret. Can they uncover all the pieces before danger closes in on them, or is the threat to the ranch even bigger than any of the Bodens could imagine?
