Synopsis:
Two years ago, Bailey Adams broke off her engagement to Danny Maxwell
and fled Logan Point for the mission field in Chihuahua, Mexico. Now
she’s about to return home to the States, but there’s just one problem.
After Bailey meets with the uncle of one of the mission children in the
city, she barely escapes a sudden danger. Now she’s on the run–she just
doesn’t know from whom. To make matters worse, people who help her along
the way find themselves in danger too–including Danny. Who is after
her? Will they ever let up? And in the midst of the chaos, can Bailey
keep herself from falling in love with her rescuer all over again?
The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you;
he will never leave you nor forsake you.
~Deuteronomy 31:8

My Thoughts:
This is an amazing story with elements of mystery, suspense, second chances, love and faith. This is the 4th installment in the Logan Point series, but for me this is a stand alone story. I would encourage anyone to ready the first three books to fully enjoy the series.
The beautiful cover gave me a hint of the story inside. It made me think of danger, beauty and hope which is included in the story.
The story begins with 10 year old Bailey Adams at a friend's house where she experiences a horrific trauma that not only sends her running, but will impact every decision she makes in her life.
"She glared up at Maude, "Yes, you did. You don't think I'm good enough to go to heaven." She walked out of the washroom, her head held high. But what if Maude was right? What if she wasn't good enough?"
Present day finds Bailey a missionary teacher in Chihauahua, Mexico and preparing for a trip to Mississippi to visit her family. She is to escort Maria Montoya, neice of Joel McDermot, to the states to visit her grandparents. Meeting Joel and Maria at an outdoor cafe` to finalize their arrangements for the trip turned out to be more than she ever expected. A chance meeting with Danny Maxwell, her ex-finace`, was one of the last things she expected, but turns out to be a blessing is disguise. Suddenly shots ring out and Bailey finds herself protecting Maria and running for safety.
Bailey is a strong, complex character with deep rooted issues that pulled on my heartstrings. She has a strong faith, but deep down she's trying to prove to God she's deserving of forgiveness in something she had no control of. Her turmoil is obvious in the expression of her raw emotions. Danny made me smile. The love he has for Bailey has never diminished since she broke their engagement and just wants her to see she can trust him. His protective instincts kick in and he will do anything to protect Bailey. I found the plot flowed effortlessly with a fast pace full of twists and turns that kept me turning the pages. The secondary characters are well integrated and brings an aspect of southern charm to the story.
This is a book I would recommend to anyone who loves suspense.

Loved your thoughts, Katrina! I'm a little behind on my Revell books, hope they don't kick me off. Although suspense isn't my favorite genre, I was drawn to book #1 by its southern setting and have loved all the books so far. This one's waiting for me by my chair.
ReplyDeleteCarole, I really enjoyed this book. I do enjoy suspense so this book was great for me. This is a quick paced book which for me added to the suspense. I loved Bailey from the first moment I met her.lol Thank you for your kind comments. I know what you mean about being behind. I am behind with Lifeway and hope to get caught up this month. I picked up Back in the Saddle by Ruth Logan Herne you recommended. Thank you for that by the way.
DeleteThank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts.
