Synopsis:

Marie Carrington is running from a host of bad memories. Broke and desperate, she's hoping to find safety and sanctuary on Prince Edward Island, where she reluctantly agrees to help decorate a renovated bed-and-breakfast before it opens for prime tourist season.

Seth Sloane didn't move three thousand miles to work on his uncle's B&B so he could babysit a woman with a taste for expensive antiques and a bewildering habit of jumping every time he brushes past her. He came to help restore the old Victorian--and to forget about the fiancé who broke his heart.
The only thing Marie and Seth agree on is that getting the Red Door Inn ready to open in just three months will take everything they've got. Can these two wounded souls find hope, healing, and perhaps a bit of romance on this beautiful island?

Step into the Red Door Inn, a lovely home away from home tucked along the north shore of fabled Prince Edward Island. It's a place where the wounded come to heal, the broken find forgiveness, and the lonely find a family. Won't you stay for the season?

My Thoughts:

Oh my, I loved this book!!
A new to me author, Liz Johnson brings a story that will swallow you heart and soul.  This is a contemporary romance, but it is also so much more.
To me the underlying theme is trust and as we all know once it's lost, it's hard to recover.
When I received this book I was immediately drawn to the beautiful cover.  I saw a young woman in a very reflective mood, or at least that's the way it appeared to me.  I immediately wanted to know her story.

I was immediately drawn into to the story from page one.  Marie and Seth were very complex characters.  Marie  has experienced a life changing event which sends her searching for peace and to some extent comfort.  Seth has been living in California and has come to Prince Edward Island to help his uncle remodel an old Victorian house into a B&B.  He has a sad history of heartbreak and betrayal.  Needless to say when the two meet there's fireworks, but not of the romantic kind.

This is an endearing story with a sweet plot that flows easily.  This story broaches some tough issues that are resolved realistically.  The author expresses Marie's emotions as both raw and real, but most importantly accurate. The secondary characters are well integrated and add to the humor, compassion and romance of the story.  I came to know Prince Edward Island through reading Anne of Green Gables and with imagery the author brings to life the modern day setting.
If you are a person who loves Denise Hunter stories I must say this story is comparable to her writing.  I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good, clean romance.

  1. Oh Katrina, what a moving review! This is in my review stack, but you make me want to set aside other commitments and start on this one today. I love discovering new authors, but it might have been the PEI setting that initially drew me to this one. Can't wait!
