The Isaac Project

Becky Sawyer’s life unravels in a single day. Not only does she catch her boyfriend, the man she hoped to marry, lip-locked with another woman, she also receives the gut-wrenching news that her grandfather, the man who raised her, is dying. His last wish? To see her happily married. Heartbroken, Becky seeks inspiration in the pages of the Holy Scriptures. And finds it in the story of Isaac and Rebekah.
If love couldn't keep his parents together, Luke Masterson wonders what will make a marriage last. He decides to steer clear of all women—especially crazy ones like Becky Sawyer, who employs a friend to find her a husband. But when he feels the dogged promptings of the Holy Spirit to move across the country and marry a complete stranger, it seems love has little to do with it anyway.

With commitment their only foundation, and love constantly thwarted, can an arranged marriage find happiness in the twenty-first century?

The Singing Librarian Books announced they would be doing a book tour for this book and I asked could I take part in it.  This is a wonderful way for me to find new authors. What caught my attention was not only the book description, but also the beautiful cover.  Something about it pulled me.  Was it the flowers? The wedding dress? The boots?  I feel it was a combination of all three.  I just knew this story was going to be something I would enjoy and I did.
This is a story about a young woman who goes to extreme measures to ensure her grandfather's dream comes true, walking her down the isle before he dies. Becky thought that would be easy to accomplish considering how long she has dated James, but when she finds out he's not as committed to the relationship she feels she might not be able to see her grandfather's dreams come true.  After a lot of tears she turns to her bible for both comfort and direction. She reads the story again of Rebekah and Isaac, but this time it touched her like never before. Suddenly she feels she has the answer she's been looking for. Why not let someone pick a husband for her?  Arranged marriages used to be the norm and they worked out.
She enlists her best friend, Lisa, to find her a husband.
After much discussion, Lisa heads back to college with the job of finding a husband for Becky.  Lisa was Becky's Eliezer.  What Becky doesn't plan on is that the idea of marriage is a lot different from a real life marriage as she soon finds out.
This is a story that will evoke both laughter and tears.  It will also swallow your heart.  The characters are strong and well developed.  Becky's strength of character is revealed in how she puts all her trust in Lisa to find her a mate for life.  Their friendship in conveyed in a very genuine way. The author brings true to life dialogue that details both family and relationship concerns.  With each page I turned I became more invested in the story.
I would recommend this book to anyone.  It brings a message of faith and to always put your trust in God to see you through any situation.
